
The challenge
Northwick Park Hospital came to us for support due to a large volume of patients requiring their first outpatient appointment. Having multiple outpatient and audiology rooms available on the weekend, insourcing was a great opportunity to reduce these long waiting times.
The solution
Agile Insourcing was contracted to reduce the waiting time over a five month period for 1st appointments, sectioning the contract into phases to support the ongoing pathway. Implementation was less than two weeks.
Phase 1: Weeks 1-9
Delivery of four all day clinics each Saturday and Sunday, with audiology support for new patients.
Phase 2: Weeks 10-22
As well as the four all day clinics, we also ran two all day theatre lists (1 adult & 1 paediatric)
Benefits to the Trust
The Trust has benefited from improved patient access by implementing a 'see and treat' model for quicker patient management. This has led to a significant reduction in waiting lists, ensuring more timely access to crucial ENT services.
Benefits to the Trust include:
- Increased capacity, offering additional appointments/surgery to over 4000 patients
- Efficient use of resource with weekend clinics
- Improved patient satisfaction with timely appointments
- Additional capacity of multi-disciplinary team outside of typical hours
- Patients are discharged back to the GP where possible to ease pressure on Trust
